Lots of people build a conservatory as a cost-effective way to add value and space to their homes. These are some ideas to get the most out of your conservatory and let it improve the quality of your life at home.
A conservatory is the perfect space for families with children. Sometimes adults need time away from the kids, and kids always need a lot of space to play, especially if the weather’s not good enough to play outside. Try turning your conservatory into either a kid’s room or an adult’s room.
The advantage of an adult’s room is that you can get some time in a nice airy atmosphere to read or pursue hobbies or just watch television. On the other hand kids will love to make a conservatory their own. It’s away from the main house so feels like their own separate space, and it’s especially fun if it has doors out to the garden so they can run in and out without making a mess. The big windows mean there’s always something to look out at, and you can keep an eye on them from the adjoining room. It also makes a great storeroom for kid’s toys, keeping all the mess away from the main living areas.
If you don’t have kids, make the room into something special for yourself. Have you always wanted a pool table? You probably have room in your conservatory and it’s the perfect space for that and other games. Alternatively, use it to pursue a hobby. It has great natural light which is perfect for painting or drawing.
A conservatory is really useful when it comes to entertaining, especially if you’re having a barbecue. Because it’s almost a part of the garden your guests can go in and out and enjoy the space whilst still being part of the gathering. Being away from the kitchen means that your guests don’t see all your preparation; perfect if things go wrong!
Use your conservatory like a greenhouse to grow plants. As already mentioned it gets so much natural light it’s perfect for growing things. Bear in mind however that it might get cold at night-time so you might want to install a heater if you have more delicate plants.
The great thing about a conservatory is that it’s so easy to keep clean. A tiled floor is easy to sweep and to wipe, and it can catch all the mess from your garden. The windows take a lot of cleaning and you’ll find yourself paying the window cleaner more, but you could buy a window cleaning pole and do it yourself to save money.
With all this space on offer you should make your conservatory into a room that suits you. If you’ve ever wanted to pursue a hobby or wished for some time to yourself, make it into your own haven. If you give it over to the kids you’ll find that other rooms in the house become your own sanctuary instead, so it’s a win-win situation!
