How fit you are prior to your pregnancy is not something many women give a lot of thought to. When you and your partner decide the time is right, or when a pregnancy happens unplanned, you are often only then left to consider how you are going to physically cope with pregnancy.
Pregnancy itself is a gruelling ordeal and in an ideal World it is one that really should be planned for and an exercise and diet routine set up for, way before you actually get pregnant. But we don’t live in an ideal World, we live in a busy hectic World where sometimes things like pregnancies just come along and hit us out of the blue.
Sports people train for years to try to change their bodies and get themselves into peak condition. If you have not been looking after your body before pregnancy then with all the changes that occur during pregnancy your body is not going to know what hit it.
The facts are that under weight women have problems conceiving just the same as obese women do. If you drink alcohol or smoke you are also building up problems for yourself and potentially for your baby to.
If you have not exercised recently (or ever) when you fall pregnant, then pregnancy is not the time to start training as if you are an Olympic athlete. Over exercising can harm you just as much as under exercising can. I can here you sigh! Yes, I know – you cannot win, overweight and there’s problems, under weight and there’s problems, do no exercise and there’s problems and over exercise and there’s problems. This is exactly one of the reasons why many women do not bother making an effort to change to a healthier diet and exercise program while pregnant. They think they are damned it they do and damned if they don’t. So they don’t bother.
This is unfortunate since it is possible to eat a healthy diet of delicious food you will love and also have a safe healthy exercise program during pregnancy. Don’t forget that being overweight during pregnancy can be extremely dangerous for both mother and child. Aliments such as high blood pressure and diabetes are just two of the problems that can be attributed to being overweight during pregnancy.
One bit of advice that can help change everything to do with a your pregnancy, is to get your partner on board as much as possible. Tell them how important it is for you to eat the right things and exercise the right way and tell them that it would be so much easier if they would join in in eating healthily and even exercising with them. Getting your partner involved can bring the two of you closer like never before and then the birth of your child will be the icing on the cake.
