But we know from our other relationships that even when there is physical closeness there is often room for improving the communication and level of connection.
Connect with you Baby by Connecting With Yourself
One of the ways that baby is communicating with you now is through the needs of your own body. Baby requires energy, minerals etc. and takes them from the supply available. Baby is here to thrive and naturally receives what he needs.
This is your natural way of being too, but many of us have learned along the way to put others first.
By listening to your body and responding to its needs for healthy food, water, rest, relaxation and even pampering you are listening deeply to your baby. When you hear and respond, the message your baby receives is that ‘it is ok to ask for what I need’.
Also, in doing this you are laying down a new pattern that honours the wisdom of your body rather than acting from old habits of putting everybody else first or putting yourself last. This too is an important message for baby and gives him permission to really thrive now.
5 Tips For Connecting With Baby When You Are Pregnant
- When you are hungry eat. When you are thirsty drink. It is very simple. But by putting off nourishing yourself during pregnancy, baby hears ‘I am not worthy of receiving what I need’.
- Take the time to rest. Even if it is 5 minutes every so often, give yourself permission to do that. In doing this baby hears ‘I can give myself time’ and ‘I can relax’.
- Say loving positive things about your beautiful pregnant body. When we say negative statements about the body ‘ I am too…’ , baby is hearing that where he is in not good enough. It is good enough. And it is lovely for baby to feel safe and well where he is.
- Breath. Allow yourself to breath in a way that is supportive. Every so often inhale deeply (if that feels good) and imagine that you are inhaling the support of the universe. As you exhale imagine that you are exhaling any pressure or stress. In doing this, baby is learning that he is supported and can release tension in a healthy, easy way.
- Send love to your body. Your body is fabulous! Take a few moments every so often to feel love for your body. This has the effect of reducing stress and also communicates to baby that his body is lovely too. When we are happy in our body it is so much easier to take care of it and make decisions that support it.
